CAIRO, May 25, 2018 (MENA) - The Egyptian agricultural exports from vegetables and fruits reached 2.88 million tonnes during the current season, the Central Administration for Agricultural Extension Services (CAAES) said. In a report issued by the CAAES, of which was obtained by MENA on Friday, Egypt's exports of citrus and potatoes witnessed a noticeable upsurge as 1.19 million tonnes of citrus were exported as well as 672,000 tonnes of potatoes. Exports of crops like onion, beans, strawberries, cucumber, eggplant, pepper, pomegranate, mango, and grapes also rose, according to the report. In the same context, Agriculture Minister Abdel Moneim El Banna said that the increase in Egypt's agricultural exports came after the ministry's efforts meant to guarantee the safety and quality of the Egyptian crops, whether they are for domestic consumption or exporting. Egypt, through these efforts, succeeded in opening new markets for agricultural crops abroad, particularly in China, East Asian countries and the European Union, added the minister. He also pointed to efforts exerted to lift ban that was imposed on some Egyptian agricultural exports in some countries, which ensured the safety of Egypt's measures and its crops.
