CAIRO, May 10, 2018 - Al Ahly right-back Ahmed Fathi has been named in the CAF's Team of the Week from gameweek 1 of the Champions League group stage. The 33-year-old Egypt international was part of Al Ahly's squad that was held to a goalless draw by Tunisian side Esperance Sportive de Tunis at Alexandria's Borg Al Arab Stadium last week. Fathi started the game in the right-back position before moving to the midfield after the injury of Amr El-Sulaya and the introduction of Mohamed Hany around the half hour mark. Despite Al Ahly's disappointing result, Fathi was included in the Team of the Week, which was posted on the CAF's Twitter account on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Tunisian defender Chamseddine Dhaouadi was Esperance's only representative in the team. The squad also saw the inclusion of Township Rollers keeper Keagile Kgosipula, defenders Fackson Kapumbu and Mandla Palma of Zesco United and Mbabane Swallows F.C. respectively. Wydad's Ismail El Hadad, TP Mazembe's Nathan Sinkala and Ben Malango, Township Rollers' Lemponye Tshireletso, Mamelodi Sundowns' Khama Billiat and Hamid Ahaddad of Difaâ Hassani El Jadidi were also included in the CAF's team of the week. The record eight-time African champions will travel to Uganda to face KCCA FC on Tuesday in matchday 2. The Ugandan side had lost their group opener away against Township Rollers.
