CAIRO, April 27, 2018 (MENA) – Zamalek defeated their rivals Al-Ahly 2-1 in a Cairo derby late Thursday in the last round of the Egyptian Premier League. The win was Zamalek's first over Ahly since 2007. Just six minutes into the game, Zamalek opened the scoring with a goal from their forward Kabongo Kasongo. Zamalek midfielder Ayman Hefny doubled the lead for his side with the second goal just 15 minutes later. The Red Devils battled to come from behind in the first half, but they failed to narrow the gap. Al-Ahly dominated the second half until their midfielder Walid Soliman netted the first goal after converting a penalty in the 71st minute. The Red Devils fought to score the equalizer, but they failed and lost the derby. Al-Ahly, which already claimed the Premier League title, lead the standing with 85 points, while Zamalek is in the third place with 61 points.
