Gazette Staff CAIRO, April 22, 2018 - Egypt fully rejects the use of internationally-banned weapons on Syrian territories and demands a transparent international probe into this matter, President Abdel Fattah El Sisi affirmed Saturday night. During a phone conversation with French President Emmanuel Macron, President Sisi said that Egypt was deeply concerned over the military escalation in Syria, which would affect the safety of the Syrian people and lead to more deterioration in the war-torn Arab country, Presidency Spokesman Ambassador Bassam Radi said. President Sisi and President Macron agreed on the necessity of finding a peaceful resolution to the Syrian conflict, Ambassador Radi said, adding that the two leaders affirmed that the Arab countries and permanent members of the UN Security Council should participate in any effort pertaining to this matter. President Sisi and President Macron also highlighted the necessity of stepping up Egyptian-French efforts to combat terrorism, the presidency spokesman said. In this regard, Egypt would participate in an anti-terrorism conference that would be held in Paris on April 26, Ambassador Radi said, adding that the French Foreign Minister, Jean-Yves Le Drian, would pay an official visit to Cairo by the end of this month for talks with Egyptian officials for cementing anti-terror coordination and consultations between the two countries.
