CAIRO, April 1, 2018 - The National Elections Authority (NEA) will announce the final and official results of the presidential elections at the headquarters of the State Information Service at 03:00 pm on Monday. The timing of the announcement has been so fixed by the NEA in response to local and foreign media requests as the newspapers and news outlets are committed to observing printing and newscast deadlines. In another development, the Arab League hailed on Sunday the process of Egypt's presidential elections, saying that they were held in a democratic atmosphere characterized by transparency and integrity. In a news conference at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the Arab League, Assistant Secretary-General Haifaa Abu Ghazala said that League offices stationed abroad asserted that voting by expatriates went smoothly. She also commended as an accomplishment the use of online verification of voter identities. Ambassador Abu Ghazala, who also heads the organisation's observer mission to the Egyptian presidential elections, highlighted that 80 League observers assumed monitoring duties in the Egyptian presidential elections. The League observers, she added, belonged to 19 Arab countries, not including nationals of the country where the election is being held. The elections, the Arab League senior official said, were held in accordance with the relevant constitutional provisions and the rules regulating the elections. She added that the vote counting process went in tandem with the measures stipulated in the elections law. The Arab League mission also noted the role undertaken by army and police forces to secure the elections, Ambassador Abu Ghazala said, adding that no such forces were present inside the voting committees.
