CAIRO, March 14 (MENA) - The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour will arrive in Cairo on Thursday within the framework of a 54-country tour ahead of the 2018 tournament, set for Russia from June 14 until July 15. In 2017, Egypt qualified to the 2018 World Cup after 28 years of absence. Sources at Cairo International Airport said that officials at the airport took all necessary measures to receive the World Cup Trophy that will arrive in Cairo on Thursday morning on board a private plane coming from Cote d'Ivoire. French 1998 World Cup-winning midfielder Christian Karembeu will accompany the Cup Trophy during its tour, the sources said. An official reception will be held to celebrate the arrival of the most coveted prize in football in Egypt, according to the sources. The FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour is a rare opportunity for fans to see the Original Trophy Cup close and have their experience captured with a photograph. The Trophy is otherwise only displayed at the FIFA World Football Museum in Zurich, during the FIFA World Cup Final Draw and at the final match of every FIFA World Cup. In September 2017, the FIFA World Cup Trophy Tour kicked off in Moscow, Russia. The tour stayed in Russia until December before going global to cover more than 50 countries across six continents. It returns to the host country in May just ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup Russia.
