Cairo, March 12, 2018 – President Abdel Fattah El Sisi led on Monday a military funeral for former chief of staff General Safy el-Deen Abu Shnaf who passed away late on Sunday.
The funeral was held at the Military Ceremonies Venue in el-Mosheer mosque which is located in the Fifth Settlement. Also attending the funeral were Marshal Hussein Tantawi, Minister of Defence Sedqi Sobhi and Armed Forces commanders.
The President offered condolences to the family of the late Abu Shnaf who is considered one of the shining symbols in the history of the Egyptian military.
General Abu Shnaf served and rose in the ranks of the infantry until he took up the post of Commander of the Second Field Army. He was then appointed as Head of the Armed Forces Management and Administration Authority. His military career peaked in 1987 when he was appointed Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces—a senior post he held until the year 1991.
