CAIRO – March 9, 2018 - Tourism ministers of Egypt, Greece and Cyprus agreed Friday to launch the first joint maritime tourism project. The ministers also agreed to form a working group to study practical measures for launching the project. The agreement came during a meeting in Berlin between Tourism Minister Rania el-Mashat, Cypriot Energy, Commerce, Industry and Tourism Minister Yiorgos Lakkotrypis and Greek Tourism Minister Elena Kountoura on the sidelines of the International Tourism Exhibition (ITB). El-Mashat said following the meeting that she had also agreed with her Greek and Cypriot counterparts to launch joint tourism promotion campaigns, for which plans will be drawn up. Cooperation will not deny any of the three states the right to compete to attract foreign tourists to the project, El-Mashat said, adding that her talks with Kountoura focused on means adopted by Greece at the height of its economic crisis to maintain the tourism sector.
