Egypt prepares for 8th Cairo Water Week with 95 international organizations set to participate
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 10 - 2025

Egypt's Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation announced on Saturday that preparations are complete for the eighth edition of "Cairo Water Week," scheduled to take place from October 12 to 16, 2025, under the patronage of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi.

The annual event has become one of the region's most prominent water platforms, bringing together policymakers, scientists, and experts from around the world.

Water Minister Hani Sweilem said the week now serves as a leading global forum for dialogue and knowledge exchange on water security and sustainable development. He stressed the government's efforts to streamline registration and organizational procedures to facilitate the participation of individuals, regional and international organizations, and to encourage companies to present their latest water-related innovations and technologies at the accompanying exhibition.

According to an official report, 95 international and regional organizations will take part in the event, which will host 125 sessions. Key meetings include the World Water Council Board of Governors, the 37th General Assembly and Executive Meeting of the Islamic Network on Water Resources Development and Management, the Arab League's joint ministerial committee on water and agriculture, the 50th anniversary celebration of UNESCO's International Hydrological Programme, the EU-Egypt Water Investment Forum, and the Egypt-Netherlands Water Forum.

The scientific component of the week is also significant. The organizing committee received 203 research abstracts, of which 49 papers and extended abstracts were accepted. Five scientific sessions will showcase 34 research papers, while an additional session will feature 15 scientific posters.

Several competitions will also take place on the sidelines of the event. Twelve participants from Egypt, China, and Kenya have qualified for the "Three-Minute Thesis" competition. Six graduation projects will compete for the "Best Final Project" award, while other contests will highlight youth innovation, water conservation awareness campaigns, and local best practices in efficient water use.

The exhibition accompanying the event has attracted significant interest, with 22 companies and organizations booking space to present cutting-edge solutions and technologies in water management and climate adaptation. Sweilem said the exhibition aims to promote partnerships, encourage investment, and foster collaboration between the public and private sectors.

Cairo Water Week 2025 is expected to serve as a global hub for policy dialogue, research dissemination, and innovation in the water sector, aligning with Egypt's strategy to address water scarcity, climate change, and transboundary water challenges.
