Egypt's Health Ministry announced on Monday that it had provided 17,201 medical services through its geriatric psychiatry clinics, which operate within a nationwide network of 24 psychiatric hospitals and centres, to mark World Alzheimer's Day on 21 September. As part of the occasion, awareness activities were organised at hospitals in Helwan, Abbassia, Tanta, Demira, and the Abbas Helmy Centre to highlight prevention and treatment methods for Alzheimer's disease. Health Ministry spokesperson Hossam Abdel Ghaffar stressed that elderly care remains a top government priority, forming part of a broader strategy to enhance quality of life and ensure sustainable healthcare services. Ayman Abbas, head of the Central Administration for Mental Health, said the events placed special focus on prevention, the role of caregivers, and the latest treatment approaches. He noted that 57 doctors, psychologists, social workers, and nurses have recently received specialised training to reinforce geriatric care services. In a symbolic gesture of solidarity, the ministry illuminated 24 psychiatric hospitals and centres across the country, reaffirming its commitment to supporting elderly patients and raising awareness about Alzheimer's disease.
