Egyptian Housing Minister Sherif El-Sherbini visited the Julius Nyerere Hydropower Project in Tanzania, meeting with Tanzanian and Egyptian officials and workers. The project, implemented by the Egyptian consortium of Arab Contractors and Elsewedy Electric, aims to generate 2,115 megawatts of electricity for Tanzania's national grid. Minister El-Sherbini expressed satisfaction with the project's progress, stating that Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi has prioritised its timely completion for its upcoming inauguration. "Through your determination and resolve," El-Sherbini told the project team, "this achievement, which fulfils the aspirations of our Tanzanian brothers and sisters for stable energy and supports various sectors, especially agriculture and energy, is being realised." The dam will also offer flood control, protect the surrounding environment, and create a reservoir storing about 34 billion cubic metres of water. This will ensure a consistent water supply for agriculture, fishing, and wildlife preservation within a major African nature reserve. Mahmoud Nassar, Head of the Central Agency for Reconstruction, praised the progress made by the consortium, confirming that regular reports are submitted to relevant governmental bodies. During the meeting, a project engineer presented an overview of the project's status. The minister's delegation included Nassar; Elham El-Sergany, Assistant Supervisor of the Minister's Office; Ahmed El-Assar, Chairperson of the Arab Contractors Company; and Wael Hamdy, Deputy CEO of Elsewedy Electric. The project underscores the cooperation between Egypt and Tanzania in major development initiatives.
