Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Egypt's Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health and Population, reaffirmed Egypt's steadfast commitment to supporting the Palestinian people by providing vital humanitarian aid, facilitating its delivery, and offering healthcare to those affected by the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip. The Tuesday statement came during a meeting between Abdel Ghaffar and Pope Francis, the Pope of the Vatican, on the sidelines of the International Summit on Children's Rights, which was attended by several heads of state and international figures.
During their discussion, Abdel Ghaffar highlighted Egypt's continuous efforts to deliver humanitarian aid to Palestine, as well as to Sudan, underscoring the government's close monitoring of the situation through periodic reports that track the provision of medical services to both Palestinian and Sudanese populations.
The Minister also outlined Egypt's comprehensive healthcare response, which has included medical treatment for hundreds of children, mandatory vaccinations, and cancer care provided in Egyptian hospitals.
He further emphasized that Egypt has extended psychological support to those affected by the violence in Gaza, particularly to help children cope with the psychological trauma caused by the conflict. Abdel Ghaffar called on the global community to join in efforts to alleviate the suffering of innocent children in the region.
Pope Francis praised Egypt's pivotal role in addressing the Palestinian crisis, commending the country's continued dedication to providing support during such challenging times. He expressed his commitment to staying in close contact with Egyptian officials to monitor the situation in Gaza and ensure ongoing assistance.
