The Egyptian Embassy in Tashkent hosted a reception on Wednesday to commemorate the 72nd anniversary of the July 23 Revolution. The event was attended by a wide range of Uzbek officials, diplomats, and academics, underscoring the strong bilateral ties between the two nations.
Representing the Uzbek government were Minister of Agriculture Ibrohim Abdurahmonov, Minister of Youth and Sports Adham Ikramov, and First Deputy Speaker of the Uzbek Senate Sodyq Safoev, who is also dean of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. Other high-level attendees included Ambassador Abdulaziz Kamilov, advisor to the president for foreign policy, and Ozoda Barbayeva, chairwoman of the Committee on Women and Family Affairs.
Members of the Uzbek Senate and Legislative Council, including those from the newly formed Uzbek-Egyptian Parliamentary Friendship Group, were also present. The event drew attendees from the academic community, the diplomatic corps, and the business sector.
In her address, Ambassador Amira Fahmy emphasized the significance of the July Revolution in Egypt's history, describing it as a pivotal moment in the nation's journey towards independence, freedom, and dignity. Fahmy also provided an overview of recent developments in Egyptian-Uzbek relations, including high-level visits, trade missions, and cooperation in education and religious affairs. She mentioned the memorandum of understanding signed between the Egyptian and Uzbek Senates to enhance legislative cooperation and the visit of the Grand Mufti of Egypt to promote religious tolerance.
