Israel kills 8,672 Palestinian students in 10 months: Official
Published in Daily News Egypt on 02 - 07 - 2024

The Palestinian Ministry of Education and Higher Education said on Tuesday that Israel has killed 8,672 school and university students in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank since 7 October 2023.

Data published by the Ministry indicate that the number of students killed in the Gaza Strip reached 8,572, in addition to 100 from the West Bank. As for the wounded, their number reached 14,089 in the Gaza Strip, and 494 in the West Bank. The data also indicate that 497 teachers and administrators were killed in schools and universities, and 3,402 were injured in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank.

According to the ministry, 620,000 students in the Gaza Strip have been deprived of school education since the start of the war, and 39,000 Tawjihi students have been deprived of taking this year's exams.

It also pointed out that 353 public schools and universities, and 65 affiliated with the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) in the Gaza Strip, were subjected to total and partial damage and vandalism.

Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Health in Gaza said that the occupation committed 3 massacres during the past 24 hours, including 25 dead and 81 injured. Thus, the death toll from the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip since 7 October rose to 37,925 dead and 87,141 injured.

Moreover, UNRWA estimated that 250,000 people will be forced to flee the city of Khan Yunis as a result of an Israeli evacuation order, even though "there is no safe place in Gaza."

The agency said on "X": "Just weeks after people were forced to return to the destroyed city of Khan Yunis, the Israeli authorities issued new evacuation orders for the area. Our estimates indicate that 250,000 people will have to flee, although there is no safe place."

On the ground, the Al-Quds Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Jihad Movement, said that they bombarded occupation soldiers and vehicles with a barrage of mortar shells in the Al-Taqadum axis in the Al-Shujaiya neighbourhood, east of Gaza City, in the central Gaza Strip, where fighting has been continuing for about a week.

It added that it bombed with mortar shells the command and control headquarters of the Israeli army at the Abu Oreiban site in the Netzarim axis.

Moreover, the Al-Qassam Brigades, the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), also said that its members clashed with an Israeli foot force in the Shujaiya neighbourhood, east of Gaza, in the central Gaza Strip, noting that they killed and wounded its members. Al-Qassam announced that it had targeted two Israeli Merkava 4 tanks with "Al-Yassin 105" shells in the Western Camp area in Rafah, south of the Gaza Strip, confirming that evacuation helicopters had been monitored.

In the same context, the Israeli army admitted that an officer and a soldier were killed and 11 others were injured in an attack launched by the resistance on the Netzarim axis in the central Gaza Strip.
