Egypt's Minister of Water Resources and Irrigation Hani Sweilam arrived on Tuesday in Stockholm, Sweden, to participate in the World Water Week, which deals with the most important issues related to water resources and their relationship to achieving sustainable development. Sweilam stated that participation in this important conference comes in response to the invitation received from the Swedish side to participate in the activities of the week, and in order to achieve communication and coordination with various countries of the world regarding water issues and ways to deal with the various challenges facing the water sector. The Irrigation Minister is scheduled to meet with many ministers and senior water officials in various countries and international and regional organizations concerned with water. In his first day in Stockholm, Sweilam met with Ricardo Mina, the Director of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction (UNDRR), where they discussed the arrangements made between the Egyptian government and the United Nations regarding the COP27 climate summit. Sweilam praised the fruitful cooperation with the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, which is participating in the organization of the Water Pavilion at the Climate Summit. He also invited the organization's representatives to participate in the Fifth Cairo Water Week to present the organization's efforts in the field of early warning systems related to extreme weather phenomena. He further referred to the ministry's efforts in the field of protection from the dangers of floods in Egypt, which aim to protect citizens and protect facilities and infrastructure.
