Minister of Tourism and Antiquities Khaled El-Anany held an expanded meeting to review the executive position and the latest developments on the website of the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), which is scheduled to be launched before the museum's opening.
The meeting was attended by a number of ministry and museum officials and representatives of the Hassan Allam Coalition, which is the company executing the website.
The meeting began with the company reviewing the design of the site, its most important pages and sections, and the introductory services it provides to the museum, its holdings, and all the activities that will take place in it.
After the presentation, all visions, proposals, and modifications that could be made to the website were discussed, with El-Anany directing that the website be released in a manner consistent with the grandeur of the museum to match the websites of its counterparts.
The museum's website will provide its users with all the information concerning the museum and its archaeological pieces and artefacts.
The website will also enable its visitors to book tickets to enter the museum online; see the most important events, activities, and events that will be held in it; as well as the educational programmes that will be offered in its educational centre.
Moreover, it will later include virtual visits to the museum, similar to other websites of international museums.
The GEM — which has been built on a total area of 117 feddans in Giza — is the largest museum in the world dedicated to one civilisation, and its opening is eagerly awaited.
The museum will display over 5,000 artefacts from the tomb of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun; all of which will be displayed together for the first time since their unearthing.
The GEM also features the first hanging obelisk in the world, along with a Grand Staircase replete with monumental artefacts.
