Egypt's FM reviews vision for COP 27 in WEF Shoukry's participation came in a session titled 'The Road to the Conference of the Parties to the COP 27: Public-Private Partnerships in Climate Action in the Middle East and North Africa.'
Minister of Foreign Affairs Sameh Shoukry — who is also the President-Designate of the 27th Conference of Parties on Climate Change (COP 27) — participated on Monday in the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) in Davos, Switzerland. Shoukry's participation came in a session titled 'The Road to the Conference of the Parties to the COP 27: Public-Private Partnerships in Climate Action in the Middle East and North Africa.' According to Ahmed Hafez — Spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs — Shoukry reviewed Egypt's vision for the upcoming COP 27, which it will host in Sharm El-Sheikh this November. The minister explained that this vision is based on the need to focus on the effective and rapid implementation of the climate pledges announced by various countries in a way that maintains the goal of reducing global temperatures by 1.5° and ensure the funding to achieve it. Shoukry also stressed that this vision includes fostering international climate action based on the latest scientific facts and data regarding the phenomenon of climate change without politicising the matter. Furthermore, he emphasised the need to work with all parties and partners involved in climate action, including the private sector — which plays an important role in this regard — together with governments. In this context, he revealed that the COP 27 will witness the launch of a number of initiatives in partnership with various parties to promote the fulfilment of climate pledges within the framework of ensuring that this session provides an opportunity for various parties to present their efforts and enhance cooperation among themselves.
