Ukraine stands with both feet on the ground, continues to defend itself: Chargé d'affaires
Ukraine pays the price of authoritarian ambitions of a sick Russian leader who want to recreate Soviet Empire and rule it: Nechai
Published in Daily News Egypt on 25 - 02 - 2022

"Ukraine will resist. The Ukrainian army took the fight. Ukraine stands with both feet on the ground and continues to defend itself, Ukrainian Chargé d'affaires in Cairo, Ruslan Nechai, told Daily News Egypt in response Russian offensive on Thursday.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin launched military operations into Ukraine and warned foreign powers of unprecedented 'consequences' if they interfere.
Nechai explained further that Ukraine is already reacting now. Ukraine`s army is fighting Russian troops in the cities all around Ukraine.
Nechai mentioned that the Ukrainian President has called for total mobilization of all citizens who can take arms.
"All of us will spare no life to protect our Motherland. We will destroy as many Russian invaders as we can! And we are destroying their helicopters, planes and their solidities in our land," he stressed.
By asking Nechai if his country pays the price of the US and Russian power competitions, he said that this narrative is produced in Kremlin.
"This is a war of Russia against Ukraine and its people," Nechai described.
He said that "Russia is an aggressor that has already seized the territories of independent states in Moldova and Georgia."
"There are no signs that Russia would cease its attempts to implement control over other independent countries elsewhere in Europe. It has also politically occupied other neighbouring nations putting them under Kremlin's total influence. Moscow tried to do the same with Kyiv. But Ukraine is a free country with more than 1000 years of nation-building preserved in historical documents since times Kyiv became the capital in the 9th century," he said.
Nechai said that the United States is Ukraine's strategic partner and Joe Biden has been a friend and supporter of Ukraine long before becoming in charge of the White House.
"We pay the price of the sick Russian leader who does not care about anyone but his authoritarian ambitions to recreate Soviet Empire and rule it. Only together we can stop Putin. We hope for the support of the Egyptian leadership!," Nechai explained.
Responding to Daily News Egypt, about his expectations expect from the European Union and the United States against the Russian steps, he said that Ukraine expects the toughest sanction they can execute.
"SWIFT must be switched off, Russians must not be allowed to travel to EU, we expect all EU, British and American visas issued to Russian nationals to be withdrawn. We expect to receive more weapons to resist Russian invaders," Nechai expected.
Nechai said that he expects the US measures to be persistent and continuing.
American President Joe Biden is preparing to announce a new round of U.S. sanctions on Russia on Thursday as his administration ramps up efforts to punish Moscow for launching a large-scale invasion of Ukraine.
In terms of how does he expects Moscow to respond to the US and EU sanctions, he said "We can not predict what is in the sick head of the contemporary Russian Hitler!."
Concerning the impact of the Ukrainian crisis on the security situation in Europe, Nechai said that It has already affected the situation.
"Millions of refugees, ruined lives, and what is the most important: if Europe with US, GB and other our allies will not stop Putin now, the next target in a few years might be the EU member," he said.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said Friday that he wants to hold negotiations with Russia over its military operation.
Zelensky made the remarks in a televised address, according to a statement published in the president's official website.
On Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin authorized "a special military operation" in Donbass, and Ukraine confirmed that military installations across the country were under attack.
At least 137 Ukrainians were killed and more than 300 injured in the military operation, Zelensky earlier said.
