Egypt's Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly launched, on Wednesday, a campaign to enhance public confidence in the effectiveness and safety of anti-coronavirus vaccines and help citizens to register for vaccination.
Madbouly also inspected a number of mobile COVID-19 vaccination clinics that will be deployed in several governorates, in the presence of Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed.
Zayed confirmed that this campaign comes within the framework of expanding vaccination against coronavirus. The campaign will start in Cairo, Giza, and Alexandria governorates. It will last for 10 days.
Madbouly said, "I hope these efforts succeed in encouraging citizens to register for vaccination, especially with the increasing rate of infection. I hope the campaign helps people realize the importance of COVID-19 vaccines, as they contribute significantly to either avoiding infection or alleviating its severity."
Meanwhile, Zayed reviewed the pandemic situation in Egypt. She also mentioned that several European Union countries have recognized the Sinovac vaccine.
The Minister explained the new mechanisms for registering for vaccination, adding that public outreach groups will be deployed nationwide to help the people register for vaccination on the Ministry of Health's website.
She said that her ministry works on a timetable to intensify the vaccination process by the end of this year, adding that a vaccination centre will be established in fairgrounds nationwide.
She reviewed the vaccination efforts in the state's administrative apparatus and the Ministry of Education. She revealed that the number of vaccinated people in Egypt amounted to about 13 million, with 617,000 citizens receiving vaccine travel certificates.
With regard to the local manufacturing of COVID-19 vaccine, Zayed said that 5 million doses have been manufactured so far, of which 2.5 million doses will be released this week. She noted that 2 million doses of vaccine will be produced weekly. Moreover, an additional vaccine production line in Giza will start operation in November, with a production capacity of 300,000 doses per day.
During the period from 11 to 30 September, about 17 million doses of different COVID-19 vaccine types, including AstraZeneca, Sinovac, Sinopharm, Johnson & Johnson, Moderna, Sputnik, and Pfizer, will be provided.
