Egypt's Minister of Trade and Industry Nevine Gamea has travelled to Iraqi capital, Baghdad, at the head of a delegation comprised of government officials and businessmen.
The high-level visit aims to enhance joint economic cooperation between Egypt and Iraq, especially in the commercial and agricultural sectors.
It is the first visit by a government official following the historic visit made by President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi to Iraq last week.
The visit also represents a solid basis for strengthening the joint strategic relations between the two countries. It aims to follow up on and implement the points agreed upon during the presidential summit.
Gamea is scheduled to hold a series of intensive meetings with senior Iraqi government officials, including: Manhal Aziz Al-Khabbaz, Minister of Industry and Minerals; Alaa Al-Jubouri, Minister of Trade; and Khaled Battal Al-Najm, Minister of Planning.
This is in addition to a meeting at the headquarters of the Iraqi Federation of Industries, that will see private sector representatives from Egypt and Iraq attend to discuss investment opportunities available in the two countries.
Gamea said that the visit aims to discuss all economic issues and files at bilateral and regional levels.
It also aims to review opportunities and possibilities for enhancing joint cooperation between Egypt and Iraq in the fields of trade, industry, investment, logistical transport, and mining.
The meetings will look to address transferring the Egyptian experience in establishing specialised industrial complexes and cities to the Iraqi side. This is in addition to discussing activating joint action between Egypt, Iraq, and Jordan, to accelerate the implementation of development projects agreed upon between the political leadership in the three countries.
