Egypt's Al-Sisi discusses GERD developments with Tanzanian counterpart
Two leaders agree to support negotiation path to achieve interests of all concerned parties, and preserve Nile downstream countries' water security

Egypt's President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi met with his Tanzanian counterpart Samia Hassan, on Wednesday, to discuss the latest developments relating to the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD).
A statement by Egyptian Presidency spokesperson Bassam Rady said that Al-Sisi stressed the need to reach a legally binding agreement to fill and operate the Ethiopian dam.
The two leaders agreed to support the course of negotiations to achieve the interests of all concerned parties and preserve the water security of the two downstream countries, Egypt and Sudan.
Rady also said that Al-Sisi stressed the strong relations between Egypt and Tanzania, and the growing development that took place in the country since his 2017 visit to Tanzania.
The President expressed his hopes to discuss different topics that are of bilateral importance for the two nations.
For her part, Hassan expressed her great appreciation of Egypt, its people, and its leadership, noting that there are broad prospects for developing relations. This includes advancing the frameworks of joint cooperation between the two countries, Rady said.
