Hala El-Said, Minister of Planning and Economic Development, indicated that 849 development projects worth EGP 2.7bn were completed in Daqahleya Governorate. These projects covered seven sectors, namely: education; health; housing; electricity; transportation; irrigation; and local development.
The ministry's report said 36 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector were completed, for EGP 343.4m. These projects related to the state's efforts to achieve the second UN sustainable development goal (SDG), "Eliminate hunger, provide food security and improved nutrition and promote sustainable agriculture".
These projects include: the construction of the new Faraskour station, which will serve 2,000 feddans; the replacement and renewal of the covered drainage networks in the Kafr Bani Salem area; and the construction of an emergency machine at the end of the Lower Umm Nawar Canal of the Upper Cerwo Drainage.
The ministry's report referred to the third SDG, "Ensuring a healthy life and promoting well-being for all at all ages", in which five projects were completed, with investments of EGP 22.2m.
This resulted in the establishment, replacement, and renewal of health and family medicine units in the villages of Mit Abu Al-Harith, Abu Nour Al-Din, Mit Abu Al-Hussein, Mit Ghorab, and Al-Malha.
As for the fourth SDG, "Ensuring a quality education that is equitable and inclusive of all, and enhances life-long learning opportunities for all", the report added that 111 projects in the pre-university education sector have been completed. This took place with investments worth EGP 937.8m, and resulted in the creation, replacement, and expansion of 1,876 classes in all educational levels.
The comprehensive survey of local community characteristics, issued by the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS), indicates an increase in the percentage of villages in which a governmental primary and preparatory school is available.
This saw a rise from 84.1% in 2015 to 96.2% in 2020, as well as an increase in the percentage of villages with a governmental preparatory school, from 82% in 2015 to 86.8% in 2020.
