526 development projects worth EGP 2.7bn set up in Fayoum over 2 years: Planning Minister
Projects were in six sectors, including education, health, irrigation, and local development

Egypt's Minister of Planning and Economic Development Hala El-Said has revealed that a total of 526 development projects have been implemented in Fayoum governorate at a cost of EGP 2.7bn during fiscal years 2018/19 and 2019/20.
The projects have been set up in six sectors, namely: education; health; irrigation; housing; electricity; and local development.
A report issued by the ministry indicated that 28 projects in the water resources and irrigation sector have been completed, at a cost of EGP 189m.
The report also noted that 74 projects in the pre-university education sector were completed, at a cost of EGP 351m. This resulted in the creation, replacement, and expansion of 994 classrooms at all educational levels.
The percentage of villages with government primary and preparatory schools increased from 87.7% in 2015 to 98.2% in 2020. Meanwhile, the percentage of villages with a government preparatory school increased from 84.7% in 2015 to 86.5% in 2020.
A total of 10 drinking water and sanitation projects were completed at a cost of EGP 564m, the Ministry of Planning and Economic Development said.
The report said that 14 projects were implemented and completed in the electricity and renewable energy sector, at a cost of about EGP 330m.
Meanwhile, 52 projects were also completed as part of local development programmes for electricity and lighting, at a cost of EGP 394m. This resulted in the installation of 2,764 lighting poles, 10 transformers and electricity kiosks, and 22,000 lamps and lighting fixtures.
The report added that 63 projects within the local development programmes for roads, bridges, and tunnels were completed, at a cost of about EGP 400m. This resulted in the paving and upgrading of roads with a length of 76.7 km, and the construction, replacement, and renewal of 20 bridges.
The report indicated that the cost of the completed projects in the programme for paving roads, bridges, and tunnels achieved a growth rate of 9.5% in fiscal year (FY) 2019/20 compared to FY 2018/19.
It added that 1,248 social housing units, and 3 commercial and service centres were completed in the New Fayoum city. This was in addition to the completion of 123 projects as part of the local development programmes for security, traffic, and firefighting, supporting the needs of local units, at a cost of EGP 81.5m.
