Egypt to hold final exams for Grades 9 and 12 in June, July
International schools have freedom to choose between in-school education for maximum of three days per week, distancing learning
Published in Daily News Egypt on 04 - 05 - 2021

Egypt's Minister of Education and Technical Education Tarek Shawky announced, on Tuesday, that the final exams for Grades 9 and 12 will be held in June and July.
Shawky said that his ministry will announce the details of the Thanaweyya Amma (high school leaving) exams after the Eid Al-Fitr holidays.
He also said that any information circulating on social media about the Thanaweyya Amma examination system are only rumours.
Egypt concluded the academic year for most educational stages at the end of April, amid the current spike in novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases nationwide.
Although the Ministry of Education and Technical Education had ended the school year for kindergarten to high school in April, it was announced that the Grades 9 and 12 exams would be held on their original dates.
The decision does not apply to international schools, which will also have the freedom to choose between in-school education for a maximum of three days a week and distancing learning.
The Ministry of Education and Technical Education announced that three trials exams will be held for high school students in April, May, and June. It confirmed that the aim of these exams is to measure the efficiency of the electronic devices used during exams, and to train students in using the equipment and networks.
The pilot exam will also test the material codes and passwords that students will use during the exam.
It is noteworthy that Egypt resumed the second term of the current academic year in late February, after extending the mid-year vacation for students by one month over coronavirus concerns.
The government had cancelled in-class education and postponed first-term exams at schools and universities nationwide in December 2020, after the country entered the second wave of the pandemic.
