15 injured as Minya Al-Qamh train derails
Egypt's Health Ministry confirms six people injured in accident discharged from hospital after receiving medical care
Published in Daily News Egypt on 15 - 04 - 2021

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population announced that 15 citizens were injured in a train accident that took place in Minya Al-Qamh, Sharqeya Governorate.
Ministry Spokesperson Khaled Mogahed said that as soon as the train's derailment occurred, 33 equipped ambulances arrived at the scene, and the injured were transported to the Minya Al-Qamh Central Hospital.
Mogahed revealed that six of the injured were discharged from hospital after receiving the necessary medical care.
He indicated that the rest of those injured have minor to moderate injuries, including "fractures, wounds, abrasions and bruises in separate places of the body". They are all receiving the necessary treatment and medical care.
The accident took place in the Minya Al-Qamh district of Sharqeya Governorate, after a train coming from Cairo derailed.
Engineer Ashraf Raslan, Chairperson of the Egyptian National Railways Authority, denied the news that two trains had collided or that there was a broken-down train present on the line.
In press statements, he said that one of the wheels on Train 339 travelling between Mansoura and Cairo derailed, which led to the train stopping, although no deaths occurred. Raslan added that the incident took place in an area where signals are being renewed.
Egypt has recently witnessed a number of train accidents that have resulted in dozens of deaths and injuries, the most recent of which was on 26 March, when two trains collided in Sohag, southern Egypt.
