Egypt, EU cooperating to face shared challenges of water resource management: EU Ambassador
Published in Daily News Egypt on 05 - 04 - 2021

Everyone will have to play part to enhance safe, secure, resilient, ecologically sustainable, inclusive access to water and sanitation, says Berger
Egypt and the European Union (EU) are working together to face the shared challenges of managing water resources, according to the EU Ambassador to Egypt Christian Berger.
Quoting the Ancient Greek historian Herodotus's maxim, "Egypt is the gift of the Nile," Berger said that, water has been chosen as a key area for development in the EU's cooperation with the country.
In the "Green Talks Webinar: Water Sustainability and Clean Oceans", which took place on Monday, the Ambassador underlined the importance and benefits of strong international cooperation extending well beyond the water sector.
"We need to work together to face the shared challenges of water resource management and ensure these are effectively addressed," Berger added, "We are working together with our Egyptian partners to this end, and Monday's event is a cornerstone to remind ourselves that sustainable management of water resources, at both local and regional levels, requires global action."
He added that the benefits of strong international cooperation will extend well beyond the water sector.
"Everyone will have to play a part to enhance safe, secure, resilient, ecologically sustainable and inclusive access to water and sanitation, as this is a shared responsibility while offering an opportunity for our economies and societies," Berger noted.
The webinar was organised by the EU, with Portugal currently holding the group's presidency, and the European Investment Bank (EIB).
The webinar is part of the "EU – Africa 30 days of Dialogue on Green Transition" which commenced on 24 March and will be concluded on 23 April with the High-level EU-Africa Green Investment Forum.
