The Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) and Fiber Misr Systems signed a business agreement, on Tuesday, to implement the smart application system for managing and operating the City of Knowledge at the New Administrative Capital (NAC).
The Knowledge City is set to be established by the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology.
The smart applications system to be implemented at the project represents an integrated open platform for programme developers to activate all elements of the smart infrastructure. It aims to provide an environment of distinguished learning, as well as scientific and applied research, with innovation and entrepreneurship in various fields.
The first phase of the Knowledge City, which is scheduled to open this year, includes: the Misr Informatics University; the Egypt Digital Innovation Center; the Applied Research Center; and the Assistive Technology Development Center for the Integration and Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities. These will be established in addition to service buildings and the main control building.
Amr Talaat, Minister of Communications and Information Technology, said that the Knowledge City is a pioneering project that works towards building a digital Egypt.
For his part, AOI Chairperson Abdel Moniem El Terras said that the agreement comes as part of the implementation of President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi's directives to achieve leadership.
It also works towards transferring and localising technology in the field of smart applications and digital systems, in a way that serves Egypt's Vision 2030 in digital transformation.
He added that the AOI has been authorised to participate with the Ministry of Communications and Information Technology in selecting the best alternatives to implement the smart applications system.
El Terras indicated that six alliances of global and local companies have applied, and the best financial and technical offer was chosen through the alliance led by Fiber Misr Egypt, which includes Siemens, Cisco and Dell.
