Egypt's Minister of Health and Population Hala Zayed announced, on Monday, that about 400,000 citizens from the eligible groups have registered to receive vaccines for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).
Zayed's remarks came during a press conference on the side lines of the annual Egyptian Fellowship Conference, which witnessed the launch of the E-learning platform for the Egyptian Fellowship.
Khaled Mogahed, Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that 40 centres across the country have been allocated to provide the vaccines. These include three centres in Cairo, four centres in Giza, three centres in Alexandria, and two centres Qaliubiya.
He also said that, to obtain the first and second doses of the vaccines, citizens have to register on the Ministry's website. People registered on the website will be divided into three groups, according to whether they work in medical teams, they are elderly, or they have chronic diseases.
Those who have registered will be informed on the date and place where they will receive the vaccines, and will be asked to sign a consent form, ensuring their wish to receive the vaccine.
Mogahed said that the Ministry of Health and Population has allocated clinics to follow up with citizens after receiving the vaccine, to detect any possible side effects.
He indicated that citizens who received the Sinopharm vaccine will receive the second dose three weeks after receiving the first dose, while those who receive the AstraZeneca vaccine will receive their second dose three months after receiving the first dose.
