Government prepares to develop applied technology for communication school
Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 07 - 2020

The El–Shaheed Amr Moustafa Industrial Secondary School for Girls in Nasr City will be developed and renamed to become the WE Joint School of Applied Technology for Communication and Information Technology.
The school's development was put into effect by a joint cooperation protocol signed, on Wednesday, by Ministry of Education, Ministry of Communication and Information Technology, and Telecom Egypt (TE).
Minister of Education Tarek Shawky said that the system of applied technology schools was launched in September 2018 by the Ministry. It aims to create an integrated educational system capable of developing Egypt's technical education to match the best technical education systems in the world.
The minister added that the protocol signed on Wednesday will see the launch of the first applied technology school in the academic year 2020/2021. It will also establish an extended partnership between the Ministry of Education and TE.
Meanwhile, Minister of Communication and Information Technology Amr Talaat said that the protocol comes under the Ministry's strategy of digital transformation and to build a digital Egypt.
The cooperation protocol with the Ministry of Education and TE aims to provide qualified and trained technical professionals in the field of information and communications technology (ICT).
The professionals will, in turn, receive international certificates to ensure they meet the needs of the local market, and competition at the regional and global levels. Talaat explained that this cooperation will extend to other governorates.
The minister also pointed out that TE will implement projects extended optical fibre cables, in addition to undertaking marine cable network expansion projects. TE's work comes as part of the plan to develop Egypt's telecommunications infrastructure over the next two years.
With these plans requiring the availability of specialised ICT professionals, especially in optical fibre technology, and software and cyber security, the proposed training is especially important.
The specialisations provided by the school were determined based on a study of the practical realities and actual needs of Egypt's labour market. The school includes specialisations in ICT, computer technology, as well as electronics and electrical systems.
