The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has appointed Khalid Hamza as the new deputy head of its office in Egypt. Based in Egypt, Hamza will assume his role on 1 May, succeeding Catharina Bjorlin Hansen. As deputy head of Egypt, he will work on the EBRD's investments and operations in the country, supporting Janet Heckman, the Bank's managing director for the southern and eastern Mediterranean (SEMED) region. An Egyptian and British national, Hamza joined EBRD in 2012 as a senior banker in the infrastructure sector. He has an extensive experience in tailoring and implementing public and private sector projects, and he has led key policy dialogue initiatives for the EBRD in Egypt. Before joining the EBRD, Hamza was a risk officer at Egypt's Commercial International Bank and a commercial and portfolio banker at the International Finance Corporation covering the MENA region and in Rasmala, the regional private equity firm. He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Economics from the American University in Cairo. Egypt is a founding member of the EBRD. To date, the bank has committed over €4.8bn (about EGP 92bn) to financing 91 projects in the country since it began investments there in 2012.
