An Italian tourist beat a supervising engineer at a hotel in Marsa Alam in Hurghada, which led to the death of the Egyptian engineer.
"I received a report from the Hurghada office last night indicating that one of the tourists beat one of the people after a verbal exchange broke out between them," said Samia Sami, head of the Central Administration of the Interior Offices in the Ministry of Tourism.
Sami added that the problem between the Italian tourist and the Egyptian engineer started when the Egyptian victim tried to tell the Italian tourist that his presence at the construction site was forbidden, as the tourist was accompanied by his two daughters (6 years old and 15 years old). This led to an altercation between them, leading the tourist to beat the engineer.
The tourist was arrested and handed over to Marsa Alam`s police officers. Moreover, the tourist, Evan Pascal Moro, confessed that he assaulted the engineer, leading to his death.
General Mostafa Ansi, the head of the General Directorate of Tourism and Antiquities Police, added that the tourist is being held for four days in custody, as the investigations are still ongoing. The tourist will be presented to the prosecution tomorrow morning, and the forensic autopsy will also determine the causes of death tomorrow.
On the other hand, as a result of the instructions of Minister of Tourism Yahya Rashed , the Egyptian tourism consultant in Italy, Emad Fathi, went to Marsa Alam and contacted the Italian consul in Hurgada, Alberto Prattini, to check the latest updates and developments in the accident .
Moreover, to reassure the tourist`s children, Fathi went to the hotel and appointed a babysitter from the hotel for them.
In the interest of the state to keep foreign tourists, Emad Fathi stressed that he is currently coordinating with the Italian Embassy in Cairo and the Italian Consulate in Hurghada on the two children`s travel procedures to Italy and assured that he will remain in Marsa Alam until the completion of the two children's travel procedures to Italy.
