The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has decided to choose the Minister of Investment and International Cooperation, Sahar Nasr, to be a member of the high-level Consultative Committee of the United Nations' Social Impact Fund, according to Randa Aboul-Hosn, the country director of the UNDP in Egypt. Nasr is the first woman, Egyptian, and African to join the committee for her work in development over the past period.
Nasr has expressed her gratitude to the UNDP for choosing her as member of the committee, which, according to Nasr, will help the programme in the process of generating jobs for young people and women in order to enable Egypt achieve its developmental goals and sustainable development in general.
The Minister of International Cooperation stressed that during the period of her membership in the committee, she will work on supporting the implementation of several goals that mainly include developing small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and empowering women economically.
The United Nation's Social Impact Fund's Consultative Committee was established in November 2016 with the aim of supporting the goals of sustainable development, the private sector and its businesses, and providing the financing necessary for investors and entrepreneurs.
In her meeting with Aboul-Hosn in the headquarters of the Ministry of Investment, Nasr discussed the ways in which cooperation can be reinforced in the field of supporting investment and the business environment to support sustainable development. They also discussed the necessary steps to take to establish a fund to support development-oriented investments in Egypt.
The two sides discussed ways of enhancing technical support in such investment projects, stressing that each financing provided by the UNDP must be in line with the priorities of Egyptians and the programme of the Egyptian government.
Nasr explained that as the rapporteur of the national committee to follow up the implementation of the sustainable development goals, she coordinates between several ministries to work towards achieving the objectives of the sustainable development strategy.
