Minister of Communication and Information Technology Yasser Al-Qadi met with the chairperson and CEO of DELL EMC, Michael Dell, and a number of the company's officials in the Middle East and North Africa on the sidelines of his visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to attend the Global Innovation Summit 2017 in Dubai.
During the meeting, Al-Qadi and DELL discussed possible means of cooperation between the Egyptian IT sector and the company as well as the new investment opportunities that Egypt offers to international and local companies. They also discussed the general strategy of the Egyptian government and the presidential initiative posed to building the capacity of youth, establishing technological parks, and increasing domestic electronic manufacturing.
DELL said that the company intends to put together a new strategy to boost cooperation between the two sides by increasing the number of trainees and workers at the company's office in Egypt by 250 new recruits each year, as well as raising their efficiency to contribute to the research and development of the company and the Egyptian IT sector in general.
Al-Qadi said that the government relies fully on youth in implementing all its sustainable development plans in all fields throughout the coming ten years. He added that he agreed with DELL EMC to host a number of youth to learn about innovation and entrepreneurship. He pointed out that the company will also help prepare a specialised programme to increase cooperation in the fields of entrepreneurship to help establish pivotal labs in Egypt. Al-Qadi invited DELL EMC to visit Egypt and learn more about the new investment opportunities available.
During the meeting, both parties agreed to begin serious negotiations to establish the company's first factory in the region and to cooperate in the field of electronics development through the presidential initiative of securing the growing demand on electronics and exporting them to African countries. They also agreed to work together to make Egypt a central hub for big data centres in the region.
