The Ministry of Transport has approved a proposal for constructing a 150,000 square meters jetty and a liquids storage facility at Ain Al-Sokhna Seaport for Al-Sokhna Port Development Company at a total cost of $60 million. The construction of a 400 m jetty will serve a storage facility for liquid petrochemicals and oil products in addition to another facility that will be able to receive giant oil cargoes with a capacity of up to 120,000 tons. Minister of Transport Mohammed Mansour told reporters on Wednesday that the government would not bear any financial burden in the project, which would add revenues to the Al-Sokhna Port Development Company. The jetty and the two facilities will provide sufficient services for major petrochemical and oil products in the port area, he said. The government had formulated a plan to develop Al-Sokhna Port, which included construction of six docks by 2020. The government assigned the port management rights to the Al-Sokhna Port Development Company in 1999.
