Faia Younan's first concert in Egypt turns into a national craze
Published in Daily News Egypt on 25 - 07 - 2016

Her black hair and captivating eyes are nothing compared to her enchanting voice. From old Arabic poems to traditional songs, Faia Younan is a Syrian talent who has managed to take the world by storm in a relatively short period of time.
This charming talent spent the majority of her life in Sweden and, accordingly, she has graced many European countries with her talent. Despite the fact that she only sings in Arabic and that she often chooses patriotic topics, foreign audiences have greatly welcomed her talent. Her popularity outside the Middle East has encouraged her Arab fans to compare her to the legendary Fayrouz.
Younan had never met her extended Egyptian fan base until just recently. The Syrian singer is set to lead her first concert in Egypt at the Opera House in Cairo in early August. Furthermore, she is also expected to perform at the Bibliotheca Alexandrina a few days later.
Younan announced the news on her Facebook page only hours before the tickets went on sale at the two venues. The long-awaited concert did not only attract a great number of her fans in Egypt, but actually caused an unexpected craze as the tickets sold out in a matter of days.
Even though the concert is not taking place for another week, the Opera House is already considering adding 200 extra seats to meet the increasing demand for tickets.
With that said, Younan is often caught up in politics as she is well known for her pro-regime stance. The singer has elaborately declared her support for Bashar Al-Assad and the Syrian government many times through her highly-active social media platforms.
The singer does not shy away from revealing her often controversial personal opinions so it is no surprise that this has left some fans unsettled ahead of her upcoming concerts. While the majority raced to buy tickets, some have expressed their concerns over her political ideology. Some sceptical Facebook users have posted on the event page, declaring that she may use the profits from her upcoming concerts to fund the Al-Assad regime.
Nonetheless, the singer's popularity has managed to keep the concerts' attendance up as huge numbers of fans can't wait to attend the first concert on 2 August, while many others are still asking for extra tickets every hour.
