Doctors Syndicate to take legal action if infections compensation increase is not implemented
A month after its ratification, the cabinet did not yet implement the court decision of increasing doctors' infections compensation

The Doctors Syndicate sent another letter to the cabinet, calling for implementing the infections compensation increase, following a verdict that was issued in November 2015.
The syndicate said the doctors are expecting the cabinet to start implementing the decision based on their respect to judicial verdicts and their aspirations to develop the healthcare sector. According to the syndicate, increasing the infections compensation is a cornerstone to developing the sector, given the deadly risks doctors are exposed to everyday.
"We hope that the cabinet implements the decision without urging us to take other legal measures against it," the syndicate said in an official statement.
The State Council ratified in early June the decision to increase the compensation for doctors who are infected while on duty up to EGP 1,000, after the cabinet issued an appeal against the decision in November 2015.
The cabinet had earlier issued an appeal against the decision, claiming it would be a burden on the state budget amid a surge in the number of doctors practising.
However, the court stated that the appeal submitted by the cabinet cannot affect the execution of the verdict. It also added that the reasons the cabinet claimed precede the execution of the verdict.
The historic court decision to increase the infections compensation rate from EGP 19 to EGP 30 and then to EGP 1,000 came following the death Dr. Dalia Mehrez in Ismailia, after she was infected with the meningitis virus during her work. Furthermore, at least 30 other doctors were infected in 2014 during their work, according to the syndicate figures.
