The Giza Criminal court decided Saturday to lift the travel ban on businessman and Al-Masry Al-Youm newspaper founder Salah Diab. The court's decision came after three sessions of a case filed by Diab demanding the cancellaion of the general prosecution's decision to impose a travel ban on him following his arrest in November, state news agency MENA reported. Diab and his son Tawfik were arrested following investigations by public fund prosecutors charged Al-Masry Al-Youm founder and other partners of profiteering from the "New Giza" project, their investment company Sunset Hills, and of involvement in squandering public funds. However the reasons behind his arrest were not specified at the time and Diab and son were referred to criminal trial days later on charges of possession of unlicensed weapons. Also upon the arrest, the Egyptian Stock Exchange (EGX) froze the stocks and accounts of Diab and other businessmen.
