Vivian Moawad narrates stories with fabrics and silhouettes
My FW16 collection was inspired by winter darkness and the cosiness that often surrounds it, says designer

Fashion is often inspired by prominent events, from politics to economy, each and every minor event constructs a detail that men and women literally carry around on their sleeves. All big transitions were documented with garments and each and every fashion evolution was always lead by societal movements.
That said, the current events seem to move in one direction while multiple fashion designers are already capturing the general theme in their recent collections. Vivian Moawad is a visionary designer that aims to face the world with her designs.
For her current Autumn/Winter season, the designer chose to narrate all current news with her fabrics, silhouettes, and colour palette. Even though the young designer does not have a history of previous collections, her recent work shows evident maturity.
"My FW16 collection was inspired by winter darkness and the cosiness that often surrounds it, while still maintaining my ongoing signature cuts and patterns," Moawad said. "As for the fabrics, I used chiffon, satin, and tulle since they are highly trendy this season as well as wool for coats".
The new collection includes a little less than a dozen outfits and only one main colour theme. The monochrome brilliantly narrates the current global circumstances while reminding us briefly of Chanel's iconic minimalist colours.
"Black and white are my two favourite colours, I enjoy playing with those two the most since they can secure plenty of ideas and options. There is no doubt they always give me the elegancy I constantly seek," she said.
The collection's true power and beauty manifest in the diverse yet relevant cuts. Each garment proves the designers' passion to strategically dissect and attach fabrics in the most artistic ways.
Moawad's technicality definitely created two effortless options to all the upcoming holiday parties. The short black and white dresses are both feminine and sharp.
She also included one jumpsuit design for those who strive to look different. Nonetheless, the daring piece is harmonious with the rest of the collection since it reinterprets the designer's main vision.
The promising designer also managed to mix and match complete opposites not only by embracing a black and white theme but by creating two opposite looks that represent romance and power.
The tulle black dress certainly defines the collection's romance with its simple cut and enchanting movement. Meanwhile, the black and white ensemble illuminates with power and character due to its leather corset and intricate embellishments.

As for the designer's favourite piece, Moawad can certainly name one must-have item out of the minimalistic collection. "The fur-fringes vest was my way to maintain the signature fringes that dominated my previous collection. Whenever I wear it, people stop me and comment about how unique it is. Therefore, it is certainly the dearest item to me," she said.
Moawad only started her professional career less than a year ago after graduating from Istituto Marangoni in London. "I started my very first collection, SS15, when I was in London attending a couple of short courses in Istituto Marangoni," she said. "My final course project was SS collection and I showcased it before coming back to Egypt, where I worked on it further before my first fashion show".
Moawad's debut took place in Egypt's leading platform Cairo Fashion Festival when she took part in its fourth season. The designer is currently a huge fan of online merchandising since she depends on her social media accounts and website to sell her designs. The collection is also available on Egypt's newest digital platform; Slickr.
Vivian Moawad's very first boutique is currently under construction and she aims to create a space for her customers to witness her art in close-up.
