Ministry of Electricity to cut power during heavy rainfall
New residential city for people affected by floods in Beheira
Published in Daily News Egypt on 11 - 11 - 2015

The Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker announced that power will be switched off during heavy rainfall to avoid electric shocks, which recently caused the deaths of several people during floods in Beheira and Alexandria.
Shaker ordered electricity distribution companies to end their emergency states and switch-off power entirely to avoid any accidents until the waters are completely absorbed.
Eighteen people were killed in Alexandria and Beheira due electric shock from fallen power cables, and a large number of people were reported missing during the floods and their whereabouts have not yet been identified.
Meanwhile, the Governor of Beheira Mohamed Sultan visited Affouna town in Wadi El-Natrun on Tuesday to review the latest updates on the families affected by the floods.
Sultan allegedly ordered the construction of a residential village in Affouna, equipped with all the necessary services, on the states lands located in Beheira.
The families who lost their homes due to the floods will reside in the youth houses in Wadi El-Natrun until the residential village is built.
He further met with the families to assure them of the arrival of all aid, including blankets and food from the armed forces, charity associations and NGOs, and medical convoys from health institutions. All internal roads in the village will be fixed and drains will be constructed in all the areas in Wadi El-Natrun, he said.
Meanwhile, in Alexandria, water cuts continued since last Wednesday in areas located in the west of Alexandria and Burj Al-Arab due to the floods that drowned several agricultural lands. The agricultural over-flooding went into the water canals that transfer water to the water purification systems, thereby raising the amount of slats in the water. This forced all water companies to shut four stations in west Alexandria, according to Ahmed Gaber the head of the water company in Alexandria.
Gaber said the problem will end within 24 hours as the company has taken the necessary steps to provide water for the citizens in the four stations.
