Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly announced the inauguration of 83 water plant projects before 30 May 2016, which will contribute to overcoming the problem of water outages, according to cabinet spokesperson Hossam El-Kawish.
El-Kawish said Prime Minister Sherif Ismail instructed Madbouly to study the project to build an industrial wastewater treatment plant in Manzala Lake in the industrial zone in Port Said.
El-Kawish said the study includes a soft loan to fund the plant, as well as the related procedures, and follow-up on the project's implementation and run it in for a fee paid by the factories in the area.
During the meeting of the Ministerial Services Group held Tuesday, they discussed the problem of water outages in different areas in some governorates, and procedures to addresses this problem.
El-Kawish said the water crisis has different causes, such as the expansion of informal buildings in the capital and in crowded cities, along with high water consumption in some northern governorates, especially during the rice agriculture season.
El-Kawish added that wasteful use of water in certain new cities, and pressures on water systems as a result of increasing citizens' consumption, which severely harmed the water stations, also contributed to the crisis.
On the other hand, the meeting discussed the development of a food safety system. The Prime Minister ordered the group to continue the studies related to this system, to meet international standards.
Further, the group discussed the development of the necessary plans to take control of unlicensed food production units, and propose appropriate solutions for their integration within the scope of the formal economy.
