Abu Trika files lawsuit against decision to confiscate his assets

Government committee responsible for confiscation of Muslim Brotherhood properties issued a decision to freeze the player's bank account

Retired Al-Ahly football player Mohamed Abu Trika filed a lawsuit calling for the decision to confiscate his assets to be suspended Tuesday.
Earlier in May, the government committee overlooking the confiscation of Muslim Brotherhood properties seized properties belonging to the tourism company Asshab Tours, which Abu Trika has shares in.
The committee followed the decision by announcing that all of the player's bank accounts have also been frozen. The committee's Secretary General Mohamed Aboul Fotouh said that the company's director is arrested on charges of participating in hostile acts against the state and that investigations revealed that the company's funds were used to finance "terrorist acts".
Abu Trika appealed the decision of freezing his bank accounts; however the appeal was rejected. The renowned football player is known for his religious conservatism and faced several claims of his affiliation with the Brotherhood, which he denied.
There has been a crackdown on Muslim Brotherhood figures since the ouster of former president Mohamed Morsi in July 2013.
