The Egyptian citizen's issues cannot be magically and quickly solved, but work towards ending bureaucracy, an obstacle to the serious investor, should be carried out, according to Prime Minister Ibrahim Mehleb. In a meeting with the Damietta Investors Association on Monday, Mehleb said the challenges facing them are huge. He added that it is important for them to come together to achieve the developmental aims through the vision agreed upon. International institutions that have witnessed the latest economic reforms believe that the country is walking through reform and development. According to a member of the association who attended the meeting with Mehleb, the government supports the private sector, which is regulated, and is a leader in development. He said the government is also encouraging and boosting procedures for the investments. As per a cabinet statement, the government fights to make structural reforms given the economic climate, through decisions and reform procedures that are able to attract more local and foreign investments. During his visit to Damietta, Mehleb said the electricity crisis will be solved next summer through an urgent plan, which will be implemented by two German and US companies that will generate 3,600MW. The contract was signed in partnership with the Egyptian armed forces. Last summer, most of Egypt faced electricity cuts on an almost daily basis lasting for several hours, while the gas shortage also contributed to the electricity shortage in winter for the first time in decades. During his visit, Mehleb announced that the government will build approximately 240,000 housing units across Egypt, with 70,000 units ready to be delivered. Mehleb said the state is working to fight the challenges facing national projects currently being established, including the New Suez Canal, National Roads Project, and projects related to the electricity sector. The Prime Minister added that combating terrorism and achieving development are also a challenge. After a meeting with representatives from the Executive Committee for Fighting Corruption in Damietta, Mehleb said the government prepared the "Nile Document". It was signed by the government and President Abdel Fattah Al-Sisi, to undertake campaigns that would fight violations on the River Nile. "We put a model to engage the government and civil society to do maintenance works for schools, which is an issue of threat to the society," said Mehleb. He added that educational curricula are being renewed through a specialised committee, ministers, and education officials from different entities. These new curricula aim to remove unnecessary elements, and provide modern curricula that would mold the character of the Egyptian citizen.
