Housing Ministry to complete roads network plan in November: Madbouly
Published in Daily News Egypt on 08 - 03 - 2015

The Ministry of Housing will complete the national plan for developing Egypt's roads network by November 2015. The plan contains three roads amongst the government's endeavours to expand on developments in Egypt.
"The plan is going on regularly according to the executive schedule put for the project, so that 10% would be implemented every month," according to a source who attended the Central Agency for Reconstruction meeting with Minister of Housing Mostafa Madbouly.
The national plan of roads, which was announced last year, will see the implementation of 3,400km in one year, at a total cost of EGP 34bn.
Madbouly said the implementation of the 30 June Suez Canal axis, the two-way axis parallel to the Suez Canal, has begun from the Ismailia direction. The work is ongoing in two directions simultaneously. He added that the axis will be an international road, as it links ports along the Mediterranean coast, including Alexandria, Damietta, and East Port Said, to the regional ring road.

A total of 10% of each road will be completed monthly, Madbouly added, to reach completion in November. This excludes the new two-way road that will be finished in December, as it was started only several weeks ago.

Madbouly assured that funds for the project are available, adding that it will be supported by the new Ministry of Planning budget by end of this month. He stressed the importance of these roads to the country and the project's support in new developmental projects.

The Ministry of Transportation said the new roads system "will be the major network of roads in the communication between all new areas and cities with the old ones".
Egypt experiences poor conditions in its major road network, which contributed the rise in the road accident death rates in Egypt to 13.2% for each 100,000 persons, according to the latest World Heal Organization (WHO) statistics.
