Salema Fawzy, an Egyptian national, was shot Sunday in Benghazi while selling vegetables in the conflict-rocked east Libyan city. The foreign ministry released a statement calling the attack a ‘criminal atrocity' and called for Libyan authorities to conduct a thorough investigation. Fawzy, who suffered a head wound and is in ‘very critical condition', is recovering in a hospital in Benghazi. The statement gave no reason for the attack. The statement, released Sunday, called for an investigation into a late-February attack that killed seven Egyptian Coptic Christians, who are believed to have been targeted because of their religion. "The ministry demanded the Libyan government assume full responsibilities in providing security and protection for Egyptian citizens residing in Libyan territory" as well as those travelling through the country, the statement said. The foreign ministry released a travel advisory for Libya Saturday following the murders. The advisory also warned Egyptian fishermen to stay clear of foreign waters without permits, as fishermen have frequently been detained by foreign border guards.
