British Parliamentary delegation meets interior minister
Published in Daily News Egypt on 13 - 01 - 2014

A British parliamentary delegation from the ruling Conservative Party met with Minister of Interior Mohamed Ibrahim on Sunday. The delegation also met with Foreign Ministry Assistant for European Affairs Hatem Seif Al-Nasr.
The delegation, which included Lord Richard Risby and the director of the Conservative Middle East Council (CMEC) Leo Docherty among other members of British parliament, condemned the "terrorist attacks that target policemen and innocent citizens" during their meeting with Ibrahim, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Interior.
Ibrahim told the delegation during the meeting that these attacks aim at "obstructing the referendum [on the draft constitution] and keeping citizens from voting", accusing the Muslim Brotherhood of standing behind those attacks.
Ibrahim also informed the delegation of the efforts exerted by the ministry to halt such attacks before they occur.
Later on Sunday, the delegation met with Al-Nasr, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
The conferees discussed the bilateral relationships between Egypt and United Kingdom, in addition to regional concerns, including the Syrian crisis, the Palestinian cause and the conditions in Libya.
"The visit comes in the context of the efforts exerted by Egyptian diplomacy to communicate with international sides to inform them about the latest developments, conditions in Egypt and steps to fulfilling the roadmap," Al-Nasr said in the statement.
Al-Nasr added that the delegation affirmed its country's support of Egypt's efforts in "combating terrorism". He also said that the conferees discussed the recovery of the "smuggled Egyptian assets and funds in Britain", stressing that Egypt hopes for "more cooperation" from the British side in that respect.
The meeting also discussed ways of enhancing economic relationships and British tourism to Egypt.
The parliamentary delegation, which visits Egypt at its own capacity, is a part of the Middle East group in the British Parliament. This group focuses on discussing regional concerns.
