Prosecutor general Hisham Barakat referred on Sunday 15 suspects, including Muslim Brotherhood Supreme Guide Mohamed Badie, to the Giza Criminal court in regards to violence on Al-Bahr Al-Aazam Street in July. Public prosecution accused Badie, Muslim Brotherhood leading figures Mohamed Al-Beltagy and Essam Al-Erian, alongside Safwat Hegazy and Al-Jamaa Al-Islamiya leading figure Assem Abdel Maged, of inciting violence and "terrorism", murder, and the establishment, funding, and arming of a gang to assault citizens, reported state-run Al-Ahram. They were accused of orchestrating marches which took place on 15 July and "terrorised" and assaulted citizens, houses and shops, killing five, reported Al-Ahram. Other suspects, who include former Minister of Supply and Internal Commerce Bassem Ouda, were accused of committing terrorist crimes, rallying, murder, attempted murder, display of force, and joining a gang which assaulted residents, reported Al-Ahram. Clashes had erupted in Al-Bahr Al-Aazam street close to Cairo University on 15 July, leaving 37 injured and five killed, according to armed forces spokesman Colonel Ahmed Ali. Ali added that the majority of the injuries were caused by birdshot and live ammunition. The clashes took place in an area close to a sit-in set up in Al-Nahda Square by supporters of ousted President Mohamed Morsi. The sit-in was dispersed on 14 August.
