Three militants killed in Sinai, 22 arrested

Three militants were killed and 22 were arrested by security forces in North Sinai on Thursday.
A militant was killed south of Sheikh Zowayed city in North Sinai, after an exchange of fire between a group of militants and security forces on Thursday night.
The four militants, who were in a car, refused to stop at a security checkpoint on the road to El Gora Airport, and opened fire on the checkpoint, Security forces responded by firing on the car. One of the militants was killed while the other three fled.
Five militants were also arrested after they attacked a police club in Arish. The attackers were chased by security forces, who succeeded in arresting five and injuring a sixth militant, who hid in a residential building in the area. Security forces besieged the building in an attempt to arrest the injured militant.
Meanwhile security forces have arrested seven alleged backers of recent attacks on police in Arish, and reportedly injured another.
Security sources said the eight suspects were Muslim Brotherhood members, and were found in a farm south Arish. They were referred to the public prosecution for interrogation.
In Be'r Lehfen in south Arish, security forces said they killed two militants and arrested nine on Thursday morning.
The army's chief of staff, Sedky Sobhy, and Second Army leader General Ahmed Wasfy were in Arish on Thursday night, to visit to security checkpoints in the city.
They also met security officials in the city. In the meeting, Sobhy saluted army and police forces for their efforts of fighting "armed terrorist groups".
