Zamalek Sports Club supporters clashed with the club's security Saturday night when a protest in front of the clubs headquarters turned violent. The protest followed a call by club members and supporters to remove club president Mamdouh Abbas and the board of directors, whom they say are responsible for the "failure" of the club. The clashes were halted by police after rocks were thrown by both parties. One of the protesters, who preferred to remain anonymous, confirmed that bird-shots were also fired. Abbas insisted in a statement posted on the clubs official website, that the behaviour of those present at the clashes is not one "which is anyway attributed to fans of the club," and added that he "personally knows who is behind these acts, incites them and funds them." A response was released by Zamalek's fan group Ultras White Knights, stating they "will not accept that the club's responsibility be handled by a failed and expired management that will not be moving us forward." "The advancement of the club will not arrive with chants...but with a revolution of complete change," the statement read.
