Any Supreme Constitutional Court verdicts made while former judge Tahany Al-Gebali was a member of the court's bench should be stricken and invalidated, Al-Wasat Party Deputy Chairman Essam Sultan said on Wednesday. Sultan's comments came after Al-Gebali made a television appearance on Tuesday where she admitted voting for presidential candidates Hamdeen Sabahy and Ahmed Shafiq in the first and second rounds of the presidential elections respectively. “Al-Gebali violated the principle of neutrality all judges must adhere to and did not remain apolitical. She broke the political participation law which prohibits judges from voting in any elections and came down from the exalted bench of the judiciary to thrust herself into political battles," Sultan said. As a result, the Supreme Constitutional Court should cancel all verdicts it made while Al-Gebali was a member. These include the verdict that led to the dissolution of the Islamist-dominated People's Assembly, parliament's lower house, due to the unconstitutionality of the elections law, he added. “Al-Gebali took off her judicial robes and secretly entered the pits of politics at night and voted for Shafiq only to deceive the public and go back to the bench in the morning feigning justice and objectivity while feeding her hatred of particular political ideology through the dissolution of the People's Assembly," said Sultan. He added that if the Supreme Constitutional Court did not convene to address this issue then every citizen would have the right to file a lawsuit against it to demand such action.
