Clashes between MIU students and university ‘bodyguards'
Published in Daily News Egypt on 26 - 03 - 2013

Clashes resumed between Misr Internation University (MIU) students and bodyguards hired by the university administration when students attempted to enter the campus.
Rubber bullets, rocks, and fire extinguisher gas were used to disperse the students.
About four students were hit by birdshot, while others were injured by rocks and gas, according to student Haleem El Sharani.
Students in front of the campus gates are sharing pictures of assaults and clashes on viral social media websites.
The MIU administration has announced the cancellation of classes today in a statement sent to students via email. The statement accused some students of attacking the university buildings and acts of violence.
“We were surprised to find the administration filing reports against us, making accusations that we attacked the building during the time we were being attacked by bodyguards," stated MIU student Mahmoud Haitham.
MIU students held a 15 day sit-in at the university campus, calling for reversing the expulsion of six students, better road safety, and the freedom to protest.
The students have been calling on the university administration to build a pedestrian bridge in front of the university. However, the administration rejected the students' demands, explaining that it does not have the authority to build a bridge.
Protests were sparked by several road accidents involving students at the university. 16 protesting students were suspended pending investigation, and six were expelled.
